Mercury is retrograde until Feb. 11. (For a big purchase, wait until March 4 because that's when Mercury catches up to where it was when it first went retrograde.) Let's have some clarity about Mercury retrograde. If you want to buy clothes, a washer or dryer, furniture or even a house - you can. Admittedly, the house might need repairs (maybe not); and you need to be careful with the paperwork. What you don't want to buy during Mercury retrograde are the items that Mercury governs in astrology i.e. All forms of ground transportation (cars, trucks, motorcycles and bicycles) and all forms of communication (printers, computers, cell phones). Many think you can't buy anything during Mercury retrograde - this is wrong. Of course you can always buy dark chocolate, wine and good towels.
Aries (March 21-April 19)
Each Mercury retrograde takes place in a different part of your chart, because each Mercury retrograde occurs in a different sign. This particular Mercury retrograde will bring you into acquaintances with old friends and contacts from clubs and organizations you belong to now or in the past. It's good to have history with others. These old faces (yes, they might still be young) might have something to teach you. They might also give you feedback that is meaningful for you, in such a way that you can tweak or modify your goals for the future. Quite possibly, one of these old contacts will lead to a secret love affair. ("So many possibilities, Grasshopper... When you can take the pebble from my hand, it will be time for you to leave."
Taurus (April 20-May 20)
This particular Mercury retrograde is taking place at the top of your chart, which means you will encounter authority figures from your past - parents, bosses, teachers, VIPs and the police. This encounter, probably by happenstance, might offer you a chance for closure or a better understanding of how the relationship ended, or in fact, what your relationship to that person was in the first place. In other words, you can learn something. Furthermore, this encounter might also open a new set of doorways that lead you into a future situation that benefits you. Remember that home, family and real estate are the areas where you can make great strides this year. Never forget this no matter what decisions you are considering.
Gemini (May 21-June 20)
In the next few weeks, Mercury retrograde will bring people from afar back into your life. These people might be from a long distance away, or they could be from another culture or a different country. This is also the perfect time to finish a major paper at school or finish writing a book or any project that is related to higher education, medicine, the law, publishing and the media. It will be so easy to get it done! Don't miss this opportunity to work with this energy. Naturally, forward motion will be hampered. Travel to new places will suffer from delays, setbacks and silly mistakes. Travel to places you have visited before however, will go more smoothly.
Cancer (June 21-July 22)
The delays and mistakes of Mercury retrograde make us groan at the thought of going through another one. However, sometimes Mercury retrograde can be helpful; and this is the case for your sign; at least, for this particular Mercury retrograde. I say this because it will be going through the part of your chart that deals with disputes and red-tape details concerning taxes, debt, inheritances, insurance matters and anything to do with shared property. Since these issues often take time or linger on, the energy of Mercury retrograde is a wonderful thing because it can facilitate finishing whatever needs to be done. You might easily reach consensus or agreement about inheritances and shared property. It's also a second chance to get it right.
Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)
This current Mercury retrograde is in Aquarius, which is 180 degrees opposite your sign. Naturally, this is bound to attract ex-partners and old friends back into your life. People with whom you were once involved, but might not have heard from for years, are suddenly in your daily world once again. This could be an opportunity to pick up where things were left off. It might also be a chance to have closure with an ex-partner. Either way, this can be a learning experience for many of you, because we are always so convinced about the correctness of our point of view, isn't that the truth? Now, with the benefit of time and space, you might have more objectivity about why a relationship ended. ("I was a bitch from hell!")
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)
There's good news and there's bad news. Mercury retrograde is taking place in the part of your chart related to your health, small pets and anything to do with your job or your employment scene. (Curious, but true.) One obvious deduction is that anything to do with your job will suffer from delays, mix ups, confused communications, cancelled meetings and silly, goofy errors. Aagghh! This is the bad news. The good news is that you will more easily finish projects at work that were already begun. You will plow through old business quite quickly. You also might wrap up loose details related to a pet or even a health issue. So, you win some, you lose some.
Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)
Old flames are back in your life again because of Mercury retrograde. Not only will past romantic situations become activated, details related to prior sports events will also become more prominent. (Sports injury acting up?) There will also be delays and confused communications regarding social occasions, parties, and anything to do with the theatre and the arts. On the other hand, (you have different rings) this is an excellent time to finish a creative project, including arts and crafts, as well as anything related to the entertainment world. The biggest thing most people will notice is that romantic interests in the past are in your world once again. First love never forgets.
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)
This is a curious Mercury retrograde for you because it will activate a number of things. One of the most obvious is that it will attract family members and relatives you haven't seen for a while, back into your world, and quite likely, all the way to your sofa and fridge. Whether it's a family reunion or down-home week, the clan has arrived. However, another different influence of this Mercury retrograde will be that you can tackle home repairs, and have productive family discussions about how to do things. These discussions might surprise you because everyone agrees to do something - minimal in-house fighting. There are drawbacks and benefits.
Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)
Brace yourself because you are going to suffer from travel delays now and in the next few weeks. If you take public transportation, you can count on missed buses and trains. If you drive, not only will there be traffic jams and delays, you might also have car trouble or a flat tire. Somehow the universe will slow you down. Likewise, your communications with others will suffer from misunderstandings. Even your daily routine will have setbacks, silly errors and misplaced stuff. Relations with siblings and relatives might be re-established on a better footing. You take what you can get.
Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)
Anything to do with money, cash flow, earnings and your possessions will be impacted by this Mercury retrograde. Obviously, it means that everything to do with these issues will slow down and suffer from errors and mistakes. Therefore, double check everything to do with financial negotiations and banking matters. And accept the fact that cheques in the mail will be late and money coming to you will be delayed. If you are looking for work, it is advisable to retrace your steps and contact people you have talked to before or perhaps even places that you worked before. These doors will open the most easily for you.
Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)
Mercury is retrograde in your sign now, which is sort of a timeout for you. It's not exactly a standstill but there's an element of this. That's why you have a chance to catch up on things. You can re-do, reinvent, reclaim, and certainly wrap up old business. Of course, this same time period will have the inevitable plague of silly errors, goofy mistakes, mixed up communications, lost items and mislaid paperwork. You will also attract people from your past back into your life, which could be an opportunity for you to learn something. Remember that this year is your chance to have new and improved, drip-dry, wrinkle-free partnerships and relationships. One obvious way to improve these relationships is to learn something from the past, no?
Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)
This current Mercury retrograde is taking place in your chart in a place that is hidden and hard to access. This means old, self-defeating habit patterns might suddenly slip you up again. If you feel bewildered and at a loss, it might be because you are your own worst enemy. Mercury retrograde tends to stir things up from the past and bring them back into the present. In this case, what it brings from the past are doubts, second guesses and murky insecurities. But the strength of this Mercury retrograde is that you will easily research matters and resolve them.
