This week is the true beginning of 2009 because it's the first New Moon on January 26, the Chinese New Year of the Ox. This is a most auspicious time to set new intentions about how to improve your life. There are two approaches: You can reduce harmful habits, and you can introduce beneficial habits. A little of both makes a big difference. And hey, the positive impulse alone that is generated in your mind is a wonderful thing. It's good to help yourself because the purpose of life is to be happy. A reduction by just 1 per cent of harmful habits and an increase by 1 per cent of positive behaviour is miraculous. And lucky ones (like me) with lots of harmful habits have so much room for improvement! Life is good.
Aries (March 21-April 19)
More than any other sign this year, you have the best opportunity to make resolutions and set new intentions for yourself for 2009. Why? Because you seriously need help. (Just kidding.) It's because this particular New Moon takes place in the part of your chart that is all about setting future goals. So for you, this New Moon is a double whammy. Do take a few minutes of your day and write down what you would like to do less of, and what you hope to do more of, so that you will have a happier life. Friends and groups will definitely help you this year, plus your ambition is aroused this month. Why not do a vision board?
Taurus (April 20-May 20)
This wonderfully auspicious New Moon occurs at the very top of your chart. It would be most appropriate for you to include in your resolutions for 2009 some ideas about your hopes and dreams for your long-term future and your life direction in general. On Monday the 26th write down what your perfect world would be 15 years from now. Then pull back and envision it five years from now. And closer to home, this year. What do you want for yourself in your future? Think about where you want to live, what you want to be doing and how you want to be perceived by others. It's uncanny how often wishing makes it so.
Gemini (May 21-June 20)
Naturally, you want to make resolutions about various things, but this particular New Moon urges you to think about how further education or training or travel can improve your life, your work and your job satisfaction. Specifically, this New Moon focuses on publishing, the media, higher education, medicine and the law. It also highlights all aspects of travel and dealing with other countries. It urges you to tap in on your quest for adventure and desire to know more about anything -- philosophy, religion, politics, quilting. What turns you on? What would make you suddenly very excited if it was on the agenda for 2009? (Aside from sex.)
Cancer (June 21-July 22)
This week, this month and, indeed, this year your focus is on shared property and how you use the resources of others. This includes inheritances, insurance matters and anything you hold jointly with someone else. However, this part of your chart is more than just how the money and resources of others affect you, it's also about your sexuality. (Getting any action?) This New Moon on Monday is the perfect time to think about reducing debt and handling anything you share with someone else, as well as how good you feel about yourself sexually. People always think, when it comes to sex, you need the opportunity! But really, you just need the right attitude because the opportunity is closer than you think.
Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)
Five planets are opposite your sign, including Monday's New Moon. This is big stuff! This year is about partnerships. Some will meet the love of your life and others will discover you're already sleeping with this person! (Love is blond.) Romantic partners are not the only partnerships that are important. Your focus this week, this month and this year is on all kinds of partnerships that will, hopefully, enrich and improve your life. After all, if a partnership doesn't benefit you emotionally, psychologically or practically, why be involved in it? What kind of partnership do you want?
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)
Everyone likes to feel enriched by what they do. However, no sign more than you truly appreciates what you achieve through your work and how others perceive you through your efforts. You love to excel at what you do; you love to do a great job. Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)
It's an exciting year. And this week and this month are the prelude of what's to come in 2009. The New Moon on Monday the 26th is the perfect time to make some resolutions about this year. Here are the areas (and they are varied) where you can shine. Love and romance are definitely blessed this year for you. New love can begin and existing partnerships can be revved up to where you once again are swept off your feet. It's a romantic year! Everything to do with home, family and real estate will be wonderfully enhanced and improved this year. Family relationships will become more joyful. You'll have a deeper, mutual appreciation of each other. Your digs will become more beautiful and more comfortable through renovating, or redecorating, or buying and selling, or moving -- something. And you can even make money through real estate or increased assets at home. Since this is where you will reap great rewards this year, grab the opportunity on Monday the 26th when the New Moon occurs to make some resolutions. How do you want your home to be?
Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)
You're at the top of the heap. The next few years will bring success to most because it's a time of harvest, you will reap what you've sown.
