All Signs

Ah - new beginnings! It's still January 2006. Meanwhile, Sunday the 29th is the first day of the Chinese New Year, the Year of Dog. (The Tibetan New Year is one lunar month later on Feb. 28.) The cool thing about this time of year is that each "new beginning" is an opportunity to clean up our lives a bit. (As a thing begins, so it unfolds.) Now is the time to make resolutions to stop bad habits, and cultivate healthy ones. (All positive action is the result of the wish to remove something harmful or cultivate something good.) The New Moon that kicks off this Chinese New Year is in Aquarius (Sunday the 29th at 6:15 a.m. PST.) Aquarius is so cutting edge! This Year of the Dog will be high-tech, global in perspective, and focused on humanitarian issues and civil rights. (And you can learn a lot from a dog -- loyalty, obedience and the importance of turning around three times before lying down.)

Aries (March 21-April 19)

I think one of the most important things you have to learn this year is related to friendships and how you relate to groups of people. After all, no man is an island -- not even a peninsula. Good people skills make your life easier at every level. And it's easy to make friends. The trick is simple: be friendly! Perhaps the greatest lesson you'll learn this year is how to work well with others, and use partnerships and group participation to further your own goals. Don't always run ahead to be first and to win. Sometimes you have to choose to lag behind to catch up on the gossip. Winning doesn't always mean being first.

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

This particular New Moon signals a good breakthrough for you. Fuzzy Neptune is sitting at the top of your chart (1998-2011) obscuring your view of your long-term goals. You literally cannot see the mountain peak! You cannot see what you're striving for. This year, you'll get a glimpse at your elusive future. You'll certainly give serious thought to your future objectives. Don't worry so much about where you're headed; instead, concentrate on solidifying your home base. Make improvements to where you live. Make your home a happy place to come back to. Put out fresh flowers and bowls of fruit. Create a well stocked kitchen with food and drink. Make your home feel abundant and enriching. You need this! (Even if you're on a low cash diet.)

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

This will be a particularly auspicious and lovely year for you because one thing you adore is learning something new. (You don't do boring.) The New Moon of the Year of the Dog (2006) highlights everything to do with publishing, the media, higher education, travel and foreign countries. It also favours medicine and the law. But the bottom line is all about learning and expanding your world and embracing more of life! (Every morning you should throw open your windows or your sliding door, and open your arms to the world saying, "Come here, ya big galoot!" Hey -- don't knock it until you've tried it. How else can the world arrive at your doorstep? And vice versa.

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

The New Moon of this Year of the Dog is a hot tip about a new lesson that you're going to learn in 2006. Although we know this is a fun-loving, romantic year where most of you will definitely take a vacation -- there's more. Apparently, you still have to come to terms with shared property with someone. If it isn't shared property, it's learning how to live with the values of somebody else. This is always challenging. We think our own values are the best. Natch! Basically, that's what political differences are all about, right? You have intelligent, sane values, while others are stupid and missing the picture! It can be quite humbling and informative to walk a mile in someone else's wedgies.

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

The New Moon of this Year of the Dog indicates your biggest lesson to learn in 2006 will be about committed partnerships. (Oh yeah.) This is a bit scary for you. You're a far more serious sign than you appear to be. (All that flamboyance, glitter, drama and penchant for tiger skin fabric fools people.) Like royalty, you sometimes feel slightly apart from others. Not quite of the same cloth. You're not snobbish. In fact, this quality can make you feel cut off or lonely at times. It's just who you are. While Neptune opposes your sign, there's a strong danger of poor communication and misunderstandings in your closest partnerships. Nevertheless, this is the very area where you want to make solid progress. You've given up a lot recently. But this has helped you to know what and who you want in your life.

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

It's important for you to understand your own personal work ethic. You are an Earth Sign. You value things that are practical and real. You also feel useful if you can give service that is meaningful to others. You want to make a difference. In this Year of the Dog you're going to completely revamp and modify your values and attitudes to work, and your job, and what you do to give service in the world. You will discover how to bring your ideals more closely into play. (The abstract to the concrete.) That's your personal challenge this year. Keep in mind that Confucius said if you do what you love you never have to work a day in your life. I too, believe if you do what you love -- the money will follow. (But I suggest you leave a forwarding address.)

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

Your sign rules the Fine Arts. (And it rules diplomacy, fashion, haute couture and matching towels in that oatmeal colour, ya know?) The New Moon of the Year of the Dog takes place in the part of your chart that rules romance, love affairs, vacations, children, the entertainment world, the hospitality industry and sports. Pretty broad range. But the bottom-line is you have to learn to value your creative output, and your creative talents. Once you do this, it's like priming the pump. When you value your creativity, everything else falls into line -- romance, vacations, participation in sports, enjoyment of children etc. It's more than self-love. It's acknowledging and owning your own creativity. Capice?

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

What a lucky year for you! Goodies will definitely continue to come your way. (What do you expect with moneybags Jupiter in your sign?) However, your personal lesson and challenge in this Year of the Dog is focused entirely on home, family and real estate matters. You have to establish the right balance between career and home. You have to create a home that is supportive to you in terms of health, prosperity, joy, relationships and fun junk food. After all, if things are wrong at home - how can you go out and face the world with confidence and peace of mind? Give yourself the kind of home you want to have. It must support and succor you.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

It is most fitting that the New Moon of the Year of the Dog forces you to focus on your daily activities with others, especially relatives, neighbours and siblings. After all, this is a time of preparation for you. And in times of preparation it's the little details -- the daily details -- that count so much. How do you treat people you encounter daily? What's your communicating style like? Do you take the time to show interest in others? Or do you just flash by with a breezy smile? I think too few cultures and societies take the time to demonstrate a gentle, genuine interest in others. Perhaps it's the high technology and fast pace of our days. Whatever it is -- it's not an improvement in human relations. We have all lost something valuable.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

The Year of the Dog will be an interesting year for you because it focuses on money, possessions and your attitude to these things. To be more precise, it actually focuses on your values. You are traditionally a long-lived sign. Quite likely, you'll be an octegarian (or older) staring in the mirror doing a recap of your life someday. That's when you'll review your values. After all, your values dictate your choices and your choices create your life! You can't buy happiness (although perhaps people just don't know where to shop.) However, money is energy. How you use your energy/money definitely changes your life one way or another. These are the things you'll think about this year. You want to use your own resources and the resources of others -- to benefit you (and others) in the best way possible.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

My, my, the New Moon of the Year of the Dog occurs in your sign. This is big stuff! No wonder the Grand Cross at the beginning of 2006 took place so powerfully in your chart this year. It's time to make a name for yourself. Ta da! Most definitely, you're going to start to take your power. You have to do this not just for yourself, but because you're a member of the tribe. And as a member of the tribe, your responsibilities go way beyond your own little test tube. Therefore, examine your appearance, your wardrobe, the first impression you create, your personality, and your style of relating to others, especially those closest to you. We're talking way more than flossing daily and wearing deodorant. This is big league. Get ready to impress the world.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

You're so stylish and creative (plus you're witty and fun to be with) that others often overlook the fact that you're so sensitive and giving -- you're sort of in a Mother Teresa league. (I kid you not.) The New Moon of the Year of the Dog indicates that this year you'll focus on your spiritual, inner world more than usual. This doesn't have to be corny or touchy-feely. Why do we think our bank statement is more real than our core beliefs? Yet, we sort of do. We keep track of our money. (Think how you feel when you lose a $50 bill.) The most important times in our life - those live or die moments with ourselves or others - are not about money! That's when who you are really counts. (Speaking of counting, Al Capone always said, "Vote early and vote often.") Of course he also said "I don't even know what street Canada is on."
