All Signs
Last week I talked to someone in Victoria who was a faithful reader of this column for years. He told me that depression made him stop reading it recently because, "That wasn't my life." I know what he means. We all go through moments of despair, tragedy, pain or months when our lives are in the toilet. However, during these times, there is always one door we can open to let a little sanity or sunlight in. This positive potential always exists, and I am always looking for that door. Humans are amazingly resilient. According to an article in the New York Times (Feb 4, 2003): "... both for people lucky enough to win the lottery and those unlucky souls who become paraplegic from an accident, by a year or so after the events their daily moods are about the same as before the momentous occurrences..." Surprising but apparently true. (So there you go -- when you win the lottery, you're still miserable but sleeping in better sheets.)
Aries (March 21-April 19)
This month Uranus moves into Pisces and stays there until Sept., it then slips back into Aquarius until January next year. What does all this have to do with Aries? Not much. I know that you like to be the first to hear news. But I digress. It means that this summer, there's a good likelihood that sudden events that are the result of past actions pop up into your life. In fact, these so-called "sudden events" are probably triggered by aspects within yourself you refuse to acknowledge. (oops) This summer will be a little training period for you to confront your hidden self. (If you wear distinctive glasses, you'll be easier to recognize.)
Taurus (April 20-May 20)
In the bigger scheme of things, you will undergo a revolution in your hopes and expectations for your future. Some external events this summer could provoke this. But in large measure, this simply involves wrapping your head around new beliefs about what is possible for yourself. You will begin to see new and different lifestyles and realize that you can have them! The only thing holding you back is your own conservative mindset. New friends will challenge your comfy velvet rut. This is good. Life is like a ten-speed bicycle -- most of us have gears we never use.
Gemini (May 21-June 20)
This month Uranus moves into Pisces until Sept. This is the beginning of a radical change in your headspace about your profession, your social status and even your reputation. Basically, your feelings of rebellion are starting to grow. You won't take crrrrap from anyone (even if they're Scottish). Because of these growing feelings two things will likely occur this summer or in the next few years: you might suddenly throw everything completely over your shoulder and walk away from what you're doing. Or you might suddenly discover new opportunities in your work, and a chance to work with new techniques or exciting modern developments. Either way -- change is a comin'.
Cancer (June 21-July 22)
Because this year heralds a new change in your life in many ways, naturally these changes will be mirrored in your own belief systems as well. Starting now and in the next few years, you will greatly expand your awareness of the world and other cultures. Rigid views that you've had for years -- will crumble. Fresh circumstances will no longer allow you to see things with your old eyes. Your new and more flexible frame of mind will attract new and stimulating ideas and people to you. (Fun!) In many ways, the next several years will be some of the most exciting years of your life. (You'll still cook with your familiar recipes.)
Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)
For the past 7 or 8 years, life has been a bit of a roller coaster. Surprise situations, changes to major relationships plus accidents and bizarre events kept you living a bit on the edge. It's been exciting -- but exhausting. Beginning this month, and especially in January 2004, you will see that an old order in your life is passing away. In many ways, a new one will begin. (Don't worry, you're still ruler of your domain.) But you'll definitely break away from intolerable restrictions that were imposed by others (or self-imposed.) Some of you will enter new sexual relationships that are different from anything you have ever had before. (Zowie!)
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)
As Uranus shifts opposite your sign, keep in mind that Uranus rules earthquakes, volcanoes, explosions, electricity and all kinds of unpredictable Eureka! moments. These qualities will start to occur or manifest in your closest partnerships. Some of you will have wild and crazy love affairs. Others will consciously arrive at new and more mutually beneficial arrangements in existing relationships. The bottom line is that you're going to learn something new about life from your closest partners. People are going to find out that you're more than just a pretty face. Oh yeah.
Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)
You are at the brink of some revolutionary changes in your job. This revolution actually occurs within you. Your attitude to work and your relationship with your job is what really is changing. Because of this, many of you will stay in the same job but put an entirely new spin on things. Your attitude will evolve. Others will experience more than evolution -- it will be revolution. These people will change their jobs quite radically. In both cases, you are seeking more freedom from onerous duties and obligations. These changes could include working with advanced technology as well as alternative wellness and healing methods.
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)
Many of you who are parents will start to notice changes in your children this month. You won't be able to take them for granted. Their growth triggers new rebellion in the household and forces you to be more like Yoda. (You might even start calling your youngest "Grasshopper.") It's important that you respect your children and that they respect you. (Basically, kids talk to their parents the way their parents talked to them.) Similarly, many of you will undergo exciting love affairs that change your thinking about life and your self-image. In fact, new forms of self-expression and creative self-release will make you feel younger and more alive. (Yes, this includes finger painting and nude beaches.)
Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)
You're definitely focused on home, real estate and your domestic scene right now. Family matters take precedence. This is actually the beginning of a fundamental reorientation of how you relate to family members as well as to yourself. Whatever you have refused to deal with will suddenly surface. Think -- home repairs, living conditions that you're dissatisfied with, and disagreeable roommates. (We're talking big changes.) You're just not going to keep on putting up with "stuff" anymore. You want to make a clean sweep of things. Because of this, old ties could break. You intend to be free of habits and people who enchain you. (What? No more Master and Slave games?)
Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)
In a small way this month, and definitely throughout the summer, you'll notice a subtle change creeping into your daily communications, letters, phone calls and conversations. The tempo of events in your life will increase. All sorts of routine little things suddenly become more important than ever before. Consequently, your everyday mental attitude about everything around you will change. Don't expect things to stay the way they were -- because they won't. Short trips, increased travel plus more reading are likely. Keep an open mind because your everyday world will become a new source of daily amazement and wonder. Gosh.
Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)
After seven years, this month Uranus leaves your sign. It might feel like a big party that's been going on for toooo long is finally over. With a weary hand, you close the door as you wave goodbye to the last few straggling guests. (Staggering might be the case.) Now it's time to think about you and your values. Your inner needs are changing. (And who's going to clean up this mess?) You might develop a new take on money, how much you want, and what you want to do with it. You will certainly want more freedom in your life with respect to possessions and how you earn your living. You want your job to be more exciting and challenging. Is this too much to ask for? I think not.
Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)
This month for the first time in your life Uranus enters your sign. Your drive for freedom will grow stronger and stronger. For some, it could reach a point of rebellion. (It doesn't have to be this way. Others will simple know that change is overdue.) Something to be aware of is that your desire for freedom will stress existing committed relationships -- both intimate and professional. However, any relationship that allows you to be yourself will hang in there. But you are definitely not going to sell out for anyone now. If you're hooked up with someone bossy who walks all over you - it's history. (Unless they start being really, really nice -- soon.)
