Moon Alert

Avoid purchases and major decisions from 10:50 a.m. until 2 p.m. EDT today. After that the Moon is in Libra.

Aries (March 21-April 19)

Be patient with others this morning. People are looking for an argument. They're in a testy 'oh yeah?' mood. Don't get suckered in. Don't take the bait. Instead, rise above all this. You will feel smug and superior that you're not going to fall for petty. No -- not you. Not today.

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

Play your nice guy routine today. Especially this morning. Coworkers could rankle. Do not hector them. I love that word. It's old-fashioned. In the 1300s, it meant "a valiant warrior." By 1660, it meant a "noisy fellow." It harkens back to Hektor, from The Ilaid. (Is that kewl or what?)

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

Tension about children, money, romance, vacations and the arts is present this morning. Use your mercurial skill with words to dance around this. If you can't do this -- what's the point of being clever? Big brains should make your life easier, not more difficult. Eh wot?

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

You're wonderful, warm, nurturing, and you can make great soup -- but you're moody. This morning you want to pout. (That will show them.) Hey, why bother? It only leaves you trapped in a pout. This means you're the loser -- not them. Nix on moody.

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

This morning you might fall into feelings of self-doubt. (Who left these out where anyone can fall into them?! "Not I," said Chicken Little. "Not I," said Henny Penny.) Self-confidence is so fickle. One moment your bathroom mirror is covered in kisses; the next - you can't face being seen in public. Shee!

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

Be gracious about money issues or your possessions today, especially this morning. (He who flings dirt only loses ground.) It's basically an emotional issue. Later in the day, it matters far less. Therefore, keep your cool - and your class.

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

The Moon is in your sign today hyping your emotions more than usual. On top of this, the Moon squares fiery Mars. ("Who goes there? Friend or foe?") Don't let parents, teachers, authority figures and your boss back you into a corner. Go into that corner facing forward - with dignity.

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

Difficulties with large institutions and the government especially regarding publishing or media issues could arise. Do not tangle with these issues today. Wait until Friday. Things look better then; furthermore, that day you are empowered.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 21)

Mild squabbles with friends and groups about allocating resources, or sharing jointly held items or using the wealth of others could be tedious today. But it's not worth getting your belly in a rash. This is small stuff, really. Say very little but gather information.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

Disputes with bosses, parents and teachers and authority figures are likely today. They might occur with friends and partners. Be aware that others will notice you during these disputes. (No one wants a video of them ranting and waving their hands. Very bad press.) Be demure.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

Issues about religious, political or philosophical matters might arise at work. They might also pertain to education, publishing and the media. Either way, you're prepared to stand your ground. But is it worth it? Surely your own peace of mind matters more.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20)

Lover's quarrels about money and possessions, even jealousy, might mar your day. Similarly, parents might find children more challenging than usual. (Never raise your arm to a child - it exposes your midriff.) Be patient with young minds. You're the adult. Sort of.

If Your Birthday Is Today

Designer Oleg Cassini (1913-2006) shares your birthday. You're wise. You're practical, and you know how to be useful. You don't crave publicity, but you often get it because you're so capable. You have strong diplomatic skills and work well with others. The year ahead could bring major changes, perhaps as significant as whatever took place in 1997. Be prepared to go with the flow.
