Libra Forecast for 2013

Introduction
Boo-hoo. The year 2013 marks the end, in our lifetime, of those fun dates like 02.02.02 or 12.12.12 (Really cool birthdays.) It does, however, mark the beginning of new cycles and trends. If we look back to when these cycles occurred before, we might see a pattern.
Saturn is now in Scorpio until 2016. The sign Scorpio is all about sex, secrets, the police, the criminal element, the world of spies, medicine, plumbing, manufacturing, nuclear fission, television, and it has a strong link to the military. Saturn is about the government, form and structure, plus rules and regulations.
The last time Saturn was in Scorpio was 1984-86 when Indira Gandhi was assassinated, AIDS was discovered, Apple released the first MAC computer, Geraldine Ferraro was the first woman to run as a Vice President running mate, Nintendo was released, the Challenger exploded after take off, the Chernobyl disaster occurred and FOX network began.
When Saturn entered Scorpio in October 2012, within weeks, the media was filled with the Petraeus scandal about the illicit sexual activities of a four-star general who was head of the CIA. A movie waiting to happen!
It's safe to assume this year we can expect a heavier focus on crime prevention. Politics might become more ruthless (if that is possible). Medical systems will be tested and found wanting.
Meanwhile Uranus continues in Aries until 2019. The previous two times when Uranus was in Aries was in 1843-1850 (the California Gold Rush) and 1927-1935 when the price of gold almost doubled.
Neptune is in its own sign of Pisces until 2025. Neptune is glamour! Pisces rules the feet. An interesting manifestation of this is shoe fashions: Look around! More than ever before we see shoes and boots that are over the top. (And over the knee.) Imaginative, high-fashion styles, which until recently were confined to Paris runways, are now on our everyday streets worn by (sometimes limping) eager women. Shoe sellers can be confident this trend will last for the next decade.
Neptune's striving for idealism will permeate society, politics and the arts. Neptune is all about illusion and rules the medium of moving film (a huge illusion). There will be an increase in 3-D movies and television as well as optical inventions and the use of holographic images - perhaps 3-D action happening in the middle of your living room!
Live faces will pop up in e-mails and phone calls as the visual becomes just as important as the content. (Wow, you'll have to be dressed to answer your phone.)
All of Me
You're always tastefully pulled together and you have grace of speech and movement. You're a contribution to the gene pool (which could use a little chorine). You're disarmingly charming and the most social sign in the zodiac. Your surroundings affect you: lighting, smells, colours. You love gorgeous fabrics, Persian carpets, fresh flowers and beautiful dishes. You rearrange furniture to create what you want at home, at work or in a hotel room. (You don't do squalor.) You love nice restaurants, dazzling dinner conversation and you always adjust that little vase of flowers. Perfect symmetry! You're a skilled debater but you hate fights. You excel in politics and the law. You assume everyone knows the difference between cobalt blue and indigo. (Puleeze.)
I Did It My Way
You busted your buns making a name for yourself in the '90s; and in 1996-97, you began to get attention. This recognition increased in the next several years, and around 2003-04 you took your power and went after cherished dreams. This was a popular time and you were flying your colours! By 2006, your ambition to earn money grew, along with your sense of entitlement, and in the next few years, many of you left jobs and residences for new beginnings around 2010-11. In fact, 2010-11 was a wonderful window when you made great strides. That was also an excellent time for partnerships and close friendships. (Which is important because partnerships are vital to you.)
It Was a Very Good Year
Travel has been a pleasure recently. (Hotels were made for you.) However, you also expanded your world through further education, opportunities in publishing, the media, medicine or the law. Wasn't it surprising how easily this came about? (And thankfully because since 2010 you've been treading a new path.) Last year, you probably felt financially squeezed. Naturally, you still travelled because the finer things in life are a necessity. (You find it easier to buy stemware than scissors.) But you'll always agree with your fellow Libran Oscar Wilde, "I have the simplest tastes. I am always satisfied with the best."
From This Moment On
Since 2010, you weren't sure where you were headed but you knew it would be different. But what will it be? Starting this year, you will strive to discover what really matters and what you really want. You know your wants in material terms, but what about psychological, spiritual and moral values? And it might feel like your control over finances and your material world is slipping, but this is because you have yet to determine what your real needs are. Be economical and sensible with money this year. But fear not, you are protected.
Nice Work If You Can Get It
This year is a preparation for your success next year. We're talking breakthroughs in publishing and the media, opening doors in medicine and the law, or gaining achievement with higher education. You will travel, write and become more sophisticated. Your views on life will change. You're becoming wiser and more mature and, by summer, you will enter an 18-month window where opportunities to promote your name and reputation will grow as never before! (Librans born before October 14 will feel this success and their names up in lights starting in late 2013; later Librans will feel this same success in 2014.) Many of you will have more work-related travel. As the year wears on, most of you will get a promotion or public recognition for your efforts, certainly increased esteem from your peers. If you want to change your line of work, you can switch to medicine, healing, the law, higher education or travel. If so, then you might not get a promotion but at least you get the opportunity to make the change you want to make.
The Very Thought of You
You're romantic. I know a couple (both Librans) who gave each other the same Valentine's gift: a statue of a couple kissing. (Sweet.) You need someone who understands your love of ambience. A candle-lit dinner, smooth music, low lighting, overstuffed furniture, beautiful surroundings - all an appealing backdrop for comfort and seduction. You're sexually inventive and open to role-playing (especially if the costumes are fun). This year you might explore romance with someone "different." Perhaps someone from another country or a different culture. Or if you are alternative, this "different" person might dress in a three-piece suit. Someone might introduce you to new ideas or new belief systems. People who used to be peripheral to your world are now in your world. And you're questioning values as you seek input from radically different sources. If you are impressed with what you learn, you might fall in love with someone, blurring the wonder of what they teach with who they are. Beware! Been there, done that, got the T-shirt.
For Once in My Life
This is an important year. For starters, you are questioning your values, which means you are seeking new ideas and are open to meeting new people with new beliefs or different philosophies. In addition, you're expanding your world to prepare for a successful year next year. So much is happening! Despite your quest, life will flow easily this year. With very little effort you can explore new directions. It's a time of growth, optimism and relaxation. You're not afraid to think big and ask for more than you usually might. (Especially in negotiations.) You're more tolerant with others and, although you have to be careful with money this year, little windfalls will benefit you. This is a good year to make plans. (Of course, we never really grow up. We only learn how to act in public.)
How Deep is the Ocean?
Next year lucky Jupiter will boost your reputation in the eyes of others. This will be a time of promotions, acknowledgments and accolades. Between 2016 -2019, many will have a residential move or a job change because you will finish the task of reinventing yourself that you began in 2010. At that time, 2016-2017, Jupiter will be in your sign, boosting your good fortune and bringing opportunities your way. These opportunities will also enrich your home and where you live.

Mercury Retrograde in 2013
Mercury retrograde times are frustrating. They generally occur three times a year for about six-to-eight weeks causing delays, transportation breakdowns, mixed-up communications, missed appointments, lost paper work, misplaced items, computer crashes and server problems. Oy! Newspapers, courier services, the Post Office, accounting firms and service industries get hurt the worst. Furthermore, each Mercury retrograde has its own flavour because it occurs in a different sign.
But they can also be used properly if you're smart. In a nutshell, just avoid some things and try to do others.
What to avoid: Avoid shopping for ground transportation like cars, trucks or bikes. Avoid shopping for items related to communications like phones, answering machines, computers and printers. I get mail asking if it's OK to buy a sofa or a washer or dryer... yes, it is.
What to do: Charge your cell phone. Pay your phone bill. Keep gas in the car and a working flashlight. Smile a lot. You will suffer from delays! Try to anticipate these and do some damage control ahead of time. Tackle repairs. (These will go surprisingly smoothly.) Clean out closets, drawers, desks and cupboards. Finish projects. Do research into the past. Study anything. Contact people from your past. Re-apply for a job. Try to get something you wanted before that fell through. Try again! Organize old photographs. Finish that "to do" list. It is easier to deal with the past than go forward into the future.
There are two sets of dates below: The actual time of Mercury retrograde is on the left. But Mercury slows down ahead of time, and then takes a long time to "catch up" to where it was when it first went retrograde. These longer time periods are on the right. When buying pricey transportation or a computer, I recommend respecting the dates on the right.
