Introduction
Boo-hoo. The year 2013 marks the end, in our lifetime, of those fun dates like 02.02.02 or 12.12.12 (Really cool birthdays.) It does, however, mark the beginning of new cycles and trends. If we look back to when these cycles occurred before, we might see a pattern.
Saturn is now in Scorpio until 2016. The sign Scorpio is all about sex, secrets, the police, the criminal element, the world of spies, medicine, plumbing, manufacturing, nuclear fission, television, and it has a strong link to the military. Saturn is about the government, form and structure, plus rules and regulations.
The last time Saturn was in Scorpio was 1984-86 when Indira Gandhi was assassinated, AIDS was discovered, Apple released the first MAC computer, Geraldine Ferraro was the first woman to run as a Vice President running mate, Nintendo was released, the Challenger exploded after take off, the Chernobyl disaster occurred and FOX network began.
When Saturn entered Scorpio in October 2012, within weeks, the media was filled with the Petraeus scandal about the illicit sexual activities of a four-star general who was head of the CIA. A movie waiting to happen!
It's safe to assume this year we can expect a heavier focus on crime prevention. Politics might become more ruthless (if that is possible). Medical systems will be tested and found wanting.
Meanwhile Uranus continues in Aries until 2019. The previous two times when Uranus was in Aries was in 1843-1850 (the California Gold Rush) and 1927-1935 when the price of gold almost doubled.
Neptune is in its own sign of Pisces until 2025. Neptune is glamour! Pisces rules the feet. An interesting manifestation of this is shoe fashions: Look around! More than ever before we see shoes and boots that are over the top. (And over the knee.) Imaginative, high-fashion styles, which until recently were confined to Paris runways, are now on our everyday streets worn by (sometimes limping) eager women. Shoe sellers can be confident this trend will last for the next decade.
Neptune's striving for idealism will permeate society, politics and the arts. Neptune is all about illusion and rules the medium of moving film (a huge illusion). There will be an increase in 3-D movies and television as well as optical inventions and the use of holographic images - perhaps 3-D action happening in the middle of your living room!
Live faces will pop up in e-mails and phone calls as the visual becomes just as important as the content. (Wow, you'll have to be dressed to answer your phone.)
All of Me
You're an amazing, complex mixture of tasteful propriety and madcap impulsiveness. You are J.R.R. Tolkien and Diane Keaton. You care about your reputation because you want status and respect. You're devoted to family and community. You abhor waste and believe in the proper way of doing things. You're very sensitive to what others think about you and you know appearances are everything. But in truth, you lead a double life! Your daring passions and secret revolts are just kept private, especially from the eyes of authority figures. (Remember Capricorn J. Edgar Hoover?) I Did It My Way
Around 1989, you began a journey that transformed you by 1996. In the next few years, you stabilized your home through renovations, repairs, buying and selling. In 1996, Jupiter in your sign brought you good fortune and by 1999, you expanded where you lived through renovations, improvements or real-estate deals. After hard work at the turn of the millennium, you began to receive acknowledgment for your efforts in 2003-04. However, that same time was difficult for partnerships. (Grrr.) By 2005, your reputation brought you kudos and praise, but it was not until five years later, around 2010-11, that you reached your time of harvest. At last! Then praise and respect were yours. You clearly saw what was working and what was not. That was also a good time for real estate.
It Was a Very Good Year
Early Capricorns have changed their appearance rather dramatically, perhaps losing weight. This will eventually apply to all of you as the next decade unfolds. Last year, you continued to enjoy a good reputation with your peers and felt relatively content and pleased with your efforts. Most of you had a strong desire to travel and you did! Many pursued opportunities in publishing, the media, or anything related to medicine and the law. Some of you went back to school or took a course. You certainly enjoyed expanding your experience of the world.
From This Moment On
Beginning this year and for the next few years, you must learn a subtle balancing act. More than other signs, you like to be useful and are often involved in community organizations. You get things done! Because of this, everyone wants your input and hard work. But hey, you're not a doormat. Your mission, should you choose to accept it (and you have no choice), is to learn how to work with others and, at the same time, maintain your independence and integrity. Tricky!
Nice Work If You Can Get It
Your work opportunities couldn't be better! (Well, of course, they could because there's no end to better, is there?) Nevertheless, this is the year to demand the advantage. You can get rid of your evil boss (legally) or get better duties or better work surroundings or perhaps a promotion or even a raise. Just ask! And if none of this works, then get a better job. That's because you have the best chance in more than a decade to improve your employment scene. This same beneficial influence is also beautifully promoting your health. This means you can easily lose extra weight, start a new exercise regime and eat healthier. Later in the year, your involvement with groups or new partnerships will further benefit your job or whatever tasks you do on a daily basis. Just keep in mind that despite your success and popularity right now, you owe it to yourself to protect and buffer yourself from too many demands from others. Don't say yes when you want to say no. You count, too!
The Very Thought of You
You're earthy and passionate, but sex is a private matter and hopefully rather naughty. (What's the point of propriety if you can't do something outrageous behind closed doors?) You like sex frequently as well as the security (especially financial) of a partnership. But you have to overcome your initial shyness and fear of rejection. Starting this summer and all of next year, your joy in intimate partnerships will be the best it's been in more than a decade! Singles will meet people of an age difference (likely older) who are richer, wiser and more worldly. (Right up your alley.) This window of time offers you chance to marry up or marry well. Be receptive to those from other cultures and different countries because you'll be attracted to people who are "different." (Not too different.) Naturally, your increasing success at work makes you feel more confident and attractive to others, and confidence is always sexy! Expect more fun and joy schmoozing with everyone.
For Once in My Life
For the next seven years, unpredictable Uranus will bring changes to your home and family life. Whatever problems you've been hiding from or putting up with will have to be dealt with. Those who feel trapped or oppressed at home will break free. (You might later re-establish ties but they will never again dominate you.) Unexpected residential moves in this window of time are highly possible (or a sudden change in your family dynamic). But relax, these changes will only be what needs to be changed and reformed. Changes in relationships with parents will be part of this picture. Fortunately, in the next two years, Saturn will help you strengthen many areas of your life to meet these future changes. This is good. You always do your homework because you like to be prepared.
How Deep is the Ocean?
Wonderful travel opportunities exist in 2015-16. Plan an exciting vacation. This is also a good time for publishing and higher education. Around 2016-18, you will start to give up whatever you no longer need or you feel is irrelevant in your life. Out it goes! This applies to possessions, people, jobs and even homes and countries. You will streamline and downsize because around 2018-19, you're getting ready to enter a whole new world!

Mercury Retrograde in 2013
Mercury retrograde times are frustrating. They generally occur three times a year for about six-to-eight weeks causing delays, transportation breakdowns, mixed-up communications, missed appointments, lost paper work, misplaced items, computer crashes and server problems. Oy! Newspapers, courier services, the Post Office, accounting firms and service industries get hurt the worst. Furthermore, each Mercury retrograde has its own flavour because it occurs in a different sign.
But they can also be used properly if you're smart. In a nutshell, just avoid some things and try to do others.
What to avoid: Avoid shopping for ground transportation like cars, trucks or bikes. Avoid shopping for items related to communications like phones, answering machines, computers and printers. I get mail asking if it's OK to buy a sofa or a washer or dryer... yes, it is.
What to do: Charge your cell phone. Pay your phone bill. Keep gas in the car and a working flashlight. Smile a lot. You will suffer from delays! Try to anticipate these and do some damage control ahead of time. Tackle repairs. (These will go surprisingly smoothly.) Clean out closets, drawers, desks and cupboards. Finish projects. Do research into the past. Study anything. Contact people from your past. Re-apply for a job. Try to get something you wanted before that fell through. Try again! Organize old photographs. Finish that "to do" list. It is easier to deal with the past than go forward into the future.
There are two sets of dates below: The actual time of Mercury retrograde is on the left. But Mercury slows down ahead of time, and then takes a long time to "catch up" to where it was when it first went retrograde. These longer time periods are on the right. When buying pricey transportation or a computer, I recommend respecting the dates on the right.
