Georgia Nicols' Taurus Forecast for 2010
"I believe that sex is a beautiful thing between two people. Between five, it's fantastic."
Woody Allen
2010: A time of Testing for Civil Liberties
This year, three changes in the heavens portend a conflict in society. We're talking about Pluto, Uranus, and Saturn. Roughly at this time, all three are making a shift from one sign to another.
Pluto takes 250 years to go through all 12 signs. (Yikes!) Pluto represents the impulse to tear things down to make them better: refinish furniture, renovate a house, destroy a nation to rebuild it.
(Sidebar: I don't believe the planets are actually causal. How could they be? But it's easier to speak as if they are. To me, astrology is a patterning of knowledge, a language for us to "read." The planets simply yield information about what is happening: as above, so below.)
Pluto rules nations. And right now, for the first time in 250 years, Pluto is at the beginning of its journey though Capricorn, the sign that rules governments. The last time it was in Capricorn was from 1763 to 1778 when the American Revolution culminated in the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
Now Pluto is back in Capricorn. Specifically, it returned in November 2008, when the election of the first black president of the United States stunned the world.
Uranus represents a "pushing boundaries" drive for freedom. The last time Pluto in Capricorn occurred at the same time as Uranus was in Aries, was 1760-1767. (That was when the battle that brought Canada under British rule happened.)
Meanwhile, here come de judge! Every 30 years, Saturn has a two-year stint in Libra. Saturn rules the courts, and Libra rules the law. The last time Saturn was in Libra was 1980-83, a time of economic recession and inflation.
So here we are.
Capricorn's desire for efficiency and order will encourage laws that restrict the freedom of the individual so that governments can efficiently deal with the masses. (Its impulse will be to install a computer chip with ID and a GPS in the heel of every newborn.) "Then we know who everyone is, and where they are!" Naturally, this flies in the face of Uranus' drive for individual freedom.
In the coming decade, struggles will ensue. Pluto in Capricorn will try to get everyone so tidily organized, we're rank-and-file. Meanwhile, revolutionary impulses will fight conservative values that threaten individual civil liberties, and Saturn in Libra will weigh the "fairness" of each case.
There is a move to world order.

Hello 2010!
Three major areas are your focus in 2010. One of them is your people scene. You're going to be popular! You'll join clubs, groups and organizations. You'll enjoy schmoozing more than you have in more than a decade! Actually, your social scene could be similar to 1998-99 or 1986-87. (Do these ring a bell, Pavlov?)
As if this busy pace weren't enough, you'll be working hard as well. At times you'll work so hard, you'll feel overwhelmed. Don't worry, you can handle it. The third area of major focus will be where you live. Major renovations, residential moves, redecorating projects, plus visiting guests will create increased activity and chaos at home. To reduce stress for yourself and others, be patient with family members. As we all know, he who laughs, lasts.
Your Illustrious Job and Reputation
There's no question you'll be busting your buns in 2010. You might even wonder if you can continue at this pace. But you will be able to handle it! You don't always work hard (busted), but once you find something you feel passionately about, you're extremely persevering. You attained some success in the early '90s that made you proud. However, in the late '90s, you experienced loss. (Gulp.) At that time, you gave up people, places, and possessions, which is why 1999-2000 was such a turning point in your life. In fact, that's when you began to reinvent yourself (something that was completed by around 2005). Expect to be more involved with groups this year. Many of you will form working units or team up with a partner.
This year, you'll approach your work with excitement and enthusiasm because you have big goals! You're unusually optimistic about the potential outcome of what you hope to accomplish. Incidentally, for those of you who are retired or not working in a day job, you still have a career. Your career is your life path. You'll be working hard too! All these efforts pay off with some serious accolades in 2013-14. Keep on truckin'.
Money - The Second Most Important Thing
Taurus is the financial wizard of the zodiac. Factoid. You're never casual about money. You don't hesitate to spend on the things you like: good wine, antiques, beautiful furnishings, and land (preferably mortgage free). But in the bigger picture, you like the security of money in the bank and solid assets.
Home renovations will drain off some of your cash flow this year. No worries, you have plans to earn it all back! And you're right. All this hard work will pay off around 2012-13. Consider this a trial period. It's as if you're constructing a prototype. When you do the missionary work, the money is never there until the payoff, which comes later.
Keep working to get your ducks in a row. This year could bring you some unexpected income. And it's favourable for almost all financial transactions.
Heartthrob Moments
You ripe, juicy peach! No sign more than you loves their creature comforts, including sex! Around 1983-86, relationships were tough; you were "moving on out" in every sense of the word. But you're never alone for long. You're the most tactile sign in the zodiac so naturally, you like to touch and be touched. Even your voice is romantic. Lately, romance has been slim pickings. (Not for all.) The last few years have seen increased responsibilities with children. You've been so wrapped up in the business of life, you've had to put partying and vacations on hold. Fortunately, this is almost over!
Because 2010 is an unusually popular year, new love could arrive! If you're in a partnership, you'll enjoy more opportunities to schmooze, and share date nights and vacations. Life flows more easily this year. It's also a year of growth and optimism and, because optimism is contagious, you attract others to you. "Have some Madeira, my dear." All this social schmoozing will either introduce you to new partners or enhance existing partnerships. The last time these opportunities existed was from that sexy summer of 2001 to the summer of 2002.
Home Suite Home
You like good food, wine, good sex, and a nice place to live. You want your home to be ordered, pleasant, and under control. But this year, chaos and activity are taking place! Renovations and major repairs can be a pain. Some are making residential changes; others are sifting through stuff (you're a collector) deciding what to keep. Perhaps visiting guests challenge your daily routine? (Meanwhile your kids are attending stiletto high.)
Naturally, all this can promote tension with family members. To keep peace and harmony in the family (which is important to you) you'll have to practice patience. Demonstrate grace under pressure. (Something you do well.) Increased entertaining is likely because you're so popular this year. Do invite people over. (With enough good food and drink, you can put them to work.) The main thing is you'll accomplish a lot at home this year, despite the threat of domestic strife. Now you know why George Burns said happiness is a loving, caring, warm family... in another city. Oy vey.
Your Inner Wah
Obstacles and challenges are the main ways we develop patience and compassion. When things are smooth and hunky-dory, who needs patience? All this increased activity at home is your opportunity to grow by showing others tolerance, and being understanding and easy-going even if your teeth are on edge.
Despite my comments about your home scene, actually, life will flow quite easily this year. You'll find it easy to move in a direction that you intend to go. Relations with authority figures and people in power will be much easier as well. This promotes inner contentment and peace.
My Taurus Mantra for 2010
Because I'm working hard, I'm playing hard!
Mercury Retrograde in 2010
These are poor times to buy cars, trucks, bikes, computers, printers and phones. Expect delays, lost items and confused communications! Best to finish things, not begin them. [Please note: the dates below are the actual dates of the direction that Mercury is moving (relative to planet Earth). However, Mercury slows down before it actually goes retrograde and, likewise, it takes a while to get back up to speed afterwards as well. Therefore, my warnings in my columns will always allow for these buffer times on either side of these dates.]
