Georgia Nicols' Gemini Forecast for 2010

2010: A time of Testing for Civil Liberties

This year, three changes in the heavens portend a conflict in society. We're talking about Pluto, Uranus, and Saturn. Roughly at this time, all three are making a shift from one sign to another.

Pluto takes 250 years to go through all 12 signs. (Yikes!) Pluto represents the impulse to tear things down to make them better: refinish furniture, renovate a house, destroy a nation to rebuild it.

(Sidebar: I don't believe the planets are actually causal. How could they be? But it's easier to speak as if they are. To me, astrology is a patterning of knowledge, a language for us to "read." The planets simply yield information about what is happening: as above, so below.)

Pluto rules nations. And right now, for the first time in 250 years, Pluto is at the beginning of its journey though Capricorn, the sign that rules governments. The last time it was in Capricorn was from 1763 to 1778 when the American Revolution culminated in the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Now Pluto is back in Capricorn. Specifically, it returned in November 2008, when the election of the first black president of the United States stunned the world.

Uranus represents a "pushing boundaries" drive for freedom. The last time Pluto in Capricorn occurred at the same time as Uranus was in Aries, was 1760-1767. (That was when the battle that brought Canada under British rule happened.)

Meanwhile, here come de judge! Every 30 years, Saturn has a two-year stint in Libra. Saturn rules the courts, and Libra rules the law. The last time Saturn was in Libra was 1980-83, a time of economic recession and inflation.

So here we are.

Capricorn's desire for efficiency and order will encourage laws that restrict the freedom of the individual so that governments can efficiently deal with the masses. (Its impulse will be to install a computer chip with ID and a GPS in the heel of every newborn.) "Then we know who everyone is, and where they are!" Naturally, this flies in the face of Uranus' drive for individual freedom.

In the coming decade, struggles will ensue. Pluto in Capricorn will try to get everyone so tidily organized, we're rank-and-file. Meanwhile, revolutionary impulses will fight conservative values that threaten individual civil liberties, and Saturn in Libra will weigh the "fairness" of each case.

There is a move to world order.

Hello 2010!

This is a busy, hard-working year! This is good news because you'll need this fast pace to take advantage of the unusual number of opportunities available to you in 2010. Fortunately, you like busy. (You don't do boring.) You're the most versatile, quick-thinking sign in the zodiac. For you, change means stimulation, although you sure haven't been sitting around getting dusty lately. Between 2001-2008, you virtually reinvented yourself! (Think of what your life was back in 1999, and look at it now. Hello? I rest my handbag.) For the first time since 1998, lucky Jupiter is crossing the top of your chart boosting your chances to travel, get further education, as well as explore opportunities in publishing, the media, medicine, and the law. In many ways, this year is going to be one of the luckiest years you've had in more than a decade! (A Gemini paid me to say this.)

Your Illustrious Job and Reputation

In the mid-80s, you broke free and started to go for what you wanted. And by the mid-90s, you were riding high, showing the world what you could do. Yeehaw! However, between 1999-2002, you suffered substantial losses by giving up jobs, possessions, places, and even relationships. This was the dark night of the soul. But you survived. Before you could focus primarily on your career, you deflected a lot of energy into rebuilding yourself and establishing a home base. Now, you are actually wondering what you really want to be when you grow up. You see that many options are open to you. And you're right! The last time Jupiter was high in your chart was 1998. Whenever this happens, all kinds of opportunities open up fpr you. It's a time when your attention turns to your profession, your career, and your public reputation. You can definitely expect a promotion at work and public recognition for whatever you do. Work-related travel is likely. If you switch careers, it could be to a field like medicine, healing, the law, or higher education. Your career is beautifully favoured in 2010!

Money - The Second Most Important Thing

Since your career and your public reputation are so beautifully blessed this year, it generally follows that your earnings will likewise expand. Many of you will get a promotion, or a better job, and this very likely can mean a boost in your earnings. However, some of you will take the new opportunities that are presented to you as a chance to change fields. If this is the case, then your earnings might not increase. The obvious benefit is that you are now starting off in a new field that appeals to you more. If you want to talk about some serious coin in your future, we're probably looking at around four to five years from now, when it looks like you are really raking it in. Ka-ching! However, those of you who make money by editing, writing, teaching, acting, and driving for a living will probably boost your earnings this year simply because you're more productive. (Money is so handy when you want to buy things, isn't it?)

Heart Throb Moments

Back around 1985-87, relationships were a major focus in your life. That's when some of you got hitched, and by the same token (flipside) that's when some of you split up. Around 1992-93, romance was exciting! Ooo la la! And by 1995, partnerships really flourished. However, many of you let go of significant relationships at the turn of the millennium. Fortunately, around 2004-05, romance was once again promising and seductive. Many of you found true love! By 2007, relationships were really cozy. Quite likely, this year will be similarly positive for both intimate and professional partnerships, simply because you have the good fortune to enjoy a better reputation with your peers. And when you're happy with yourself and smiling all the time, you're cute! (Cute is good for romance.)

Home Suite Home

In the early 1980s (for those of you who are old enough to remember) many of you were scrambling to establish a home base for yourself. You were testing city versus country, wood-burning log cabin versus high-rise condo, or being able to buy your own home. This same challenge to establish a home base arose again during the last five years. Residential and job changes between 2005-2007 kept you on your toes. And most recently, the last few years have been all about fixing up, renovating, and repairing where you live (or for some, yet again one more move). Essentially, your home scene is feeling more secure. You know where your bed is at night; plus family relations have improved. The good news is things will continue to improve in large measure because you feel better about yourself in 2010. Your activities are expanding, along with your confidence, which naturally spills over into your personal life. (Plus you're taking Vitamin D now, right?)

Your Inner Wah

Mercury is the ruler of Gemini. Mercury rules how you talk, speak, think, and intellectualize. It also rules your hands, your lungs, and your chest, which is why Geminis are very good with their hands, and they often have broad shoulders or a full chest. (Let's not even go there.) This means you use your mind to arrive at your profound realizations. Your inner growth is often a Eureka! moment of epiphany. This year, for the first time in more than half a century, you identify very strongly with your ideas and your opinions. Your entire mental process is going to be vigorous and active. Although great spiritual truths have to be experienced, the path to this experience is often first an intellectual process. In 2010, you have the mental energy to process many ideas and concepts, which will ultimately lead to a deeper understanding of reality. (Wow, you must be smart.)

My Gemini Mantra for 2010

"Will someone hand me the phone? I'm at the door waiting for opportunity to knock."

Mercury Retrograde in 2010

These are poor times to buy cars, trucks, bikes, computers, printers and phones. Expect delays, lost items and confused communications! Best to finish things, not begin them. [Please note: the dates below are the actual dates of the direction that Mercury is moving (relative to planet Earth). However, Mercury slows down before it actually goes retrograde and, likewise, takes a while to get back up to speed afterwards as well. Therefore, my warnings in my columns will always allow for these buffer times.]
