Georgia Nicols' Capricorn Forecast for 2010

2010: A time of Testing for Civil Liberties
This year, three changes in the heavens portend a conflict in society. We're talking about Pluto, Uranus, and Saturn. Roughly at this time, all three are making a shift from one sign to another.
Pluto takes 250 years to go through all 12 signs. (Yikes!) Pluto represents the impulse to tear things down to make them better: refinish furniture, renovate a house, destroy a nation to rebuild it.
(Sidebar: I don't believe the planets are actually causal. How could they be? But it's easier to speak as if they are. To me, astrology is a patterning of knowledge, a language for us to "read." The planets simply yield information about what is happening: as above, so below.)
Pluto rules nations. And right now, for the first time in 250 years, Pluto is at the beginning of its journey though Capricorn, the sign that rules governments. The last time it was in Capricorn was from 1763 to 1778 when the American Revolution culminated in the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
Now Pluto is back in Capricorn. Specifically, it returned in November 2008, when the election of the first black president of the United States stunned the world.
Uranus represents a "pushing boundaries" drive for freedom. The last time Pluto in Capricorn occurred at the same time as Uranus was in Aries, was 1760-1767. (That was when the battle that brought Canada under British rule happened.)
Meanwhile, here come de judge! Every 30 years, Saturn has a two-year stint in Libra. Saturn rules the courts, and Libra rules the law. The last time Saturn was in Libra was 1980-83, a time of economic recession and inflation.
So here we are.
Capricorn's desire for efficiency and order will encourage laws that restrict the freedom of the individual so that governments can efficiently deal with the masses. (Its impulse will be to install a computer chip with ID and a GPS in the heel of every newborn.) "Then we know who everyone is, and where they are!" Naturally, this flies in the face of Uranus' drive for individual freedom.
In the coming decade, struggles will ensue. Pluto in Capricorn will try to get everyone so tidily organized, we're rank-and-file. Meanwhile, revolutionary impulses will fight conservative values that threaten individual civil liberties, and Saturn in Libra will weigh the "fairness" of each case.
There is a move to world order.
(I'm going to clean my bedroom closet.)
Hello 2010!
This is the year you've been waiting for dear Capricorn. It's your time of harvest. It will be busy! Not only will you be active with extended travel, your everyday life will be full of surprises and exciting opportunities. Relations with relatives and siblings will be more joyful. You will feel a shift because old thought patterns are changing. You're less likely to be a victim of self-imposed limitations. You feel more free! And you feel happier! In turn, this spurs you to make plans for the future that are expansive and bigger than you usually dare to dream. Even your communications with others will be more upbeat and positive. You're less concerned with what others think about you. You're more concerned with being true to yourself. (As you well know, honesty is the best policy, especially if that's where the money is.)
Your Illustrious Job and Reputation
Around 1989, you started out on a journey to reinvent yourself. Look how different your life is now! You probably live in a different place and have a different self-image. After securing your home base in the mid-90s, you busted your buns around 2001. This hard work has now come to this current pinnacle of achievement. This year (and also the next few years) are when the seeds you planted will flower. Those that you planted carefully will be your successes. Those that were duds will be obvious failures. So what? Move on!
You're entering one of the most powerful times in your life, where you'll easily see what works and what doesn't work. For many, your cherished dreams will come true. (Later Capricorns will enjoy this in 2011.)
You will have lots of responsibilities, but you can handle them. You feel excited because you know it's time to write that book, sell that song, make that movie, build that business, go for that promotion, or do whatever it is you have wanted to achieve for so long. This year is the gateway to one of the most rewarding times in your life.
"Toto, I have a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore."
Money - The Second Most Important Thing
Money looks good this year! (Music to your ears. Capricorns need money to buy good labels, class and prestige.) Many of you will get a better job, or a promotion, or discover new sources of income. Ironically, some of you will have a sense of increased wealth simply because of wonderful goodies that you buy yourself. The end result is you feel richer! And you look cool! (Cool is good.)
Now here's what's interesting about 2010. Not only can you boost your own earnings, but your partner's earnings can grow as well! (Mom always liked you best.) You have an excellent chance of getting richer or having more perks and advantages through the wealth of others: partners, associates, and even inheritances through family and friends. In other words, money is coming at you from both directions! Sheesh!
Naturally, the small print taketh away what the large print giveth. Expect disputes with partners about inheritances, money, and shared property. However, you're not a sign that's easy to outfox. Ha! You don't miss a thing. Nevertheless, be alert (the world needs more lerts).
Heartthrob Moments
Your sign is really cleaning up this year! Your name is up in lights. You get all the accolades. Your money scene looks good. And now, when it comes to romance, your sex life looks more passionate than it's ever been! When you're hot, you're hot!
Mars is associated with ego, muscles, aggression, and sexual energy. Every two years, Mars travels through your House of Sex for a brief six weeks. Would you believe that Mars is staying in your House of Sex for eight months?
Your sex drive is in passing gear! You'll definitely seek out partners who are up for intense, mind-blowing experiences. (Capricorn is a very horny sign.) Not only do you want lots of action, you want these experiences to be transforming and transcendent, which places a lot of expectation on another frail mortal. Get real. (But go for the gusto!)
Home Suite Home
You're coming into "your moment" in the Sun, where it is finally all about you. In many ways, this will make your home life more joyful and happy, simply because you are happier. However, all this focus on career, external success, your reputation and, for many, increased power, could rob you of time you need to spend on home and family.
It's important for you to work to keep a good balance going. When all these dreams are coming true this year and next, you must remind yourself how much you need the security of your home base in the warmth of loving family relationships. Many people have trouble marrying their success in the external world with a happy family environment. Therefore, you'll become so focused on your external affairs and your social prestige that you overlook what's happening at home.
If disputes about inheritances, shared property, and insurance matters arise, think about your long-term objective. Sometimes it's easier to lose the battle but win the war. If you do have to fight over shared resources, make sure it's worthwhile. Maybe you need to re-examine your own values? Once you know what your values are, it's easier to make decisions!
Your Inner Wah
Our moments of greatest soul-searching are often associated with loss and failure. By contrast, you are entering a time of harvest where all kinds of successes will blossom into being for you! When things are going well, we often forget to count our blessings.
However, every harvest is also a time where we clearly see something that failed. These are the areas that will be thought-provoking and valuable for you because these are the areas where your leaning curve will be. Why did something fail? Examine your successes, and examine your failures. Someone who never fails can never know success. Someone who never suffers can never know compassion. (On the other hand, Mitch Ratcliffe said, "Computers have enabled people to make mistakes faster than almost any invention in history, with the possible exception of Tequila and hand guns.")

"I worked for this, and I deserve it!"
Mercury Retrograde in 2010
These are poor times to buy cars, trucks, bikes, computers, printers and phones. Expect delays, lost items and confused communications! Best to finish things, not begin them. [Please note: the dates below are the actual dates of the direction that Mercury is moving (relative to planet Earth). However, Mercury slows down before it actually goes retrograde and, likewise, it takes a while to get back up to speed afterwards as well. Therefore, my warnings in my columns will always allow for these buffer times on either side of these dates.]
